Schumer the tamandua anteater was just a baby when found as an orphan by MINAE (Ministry of the Environment and Energy), the Costa Rican government entity that manages the country’s wildlife and national parks. When MINAE rescues wildlife, a rescue organization takes the rescued animal for rehabilitation. MINAE called TSI to help. Anteaters are part of the same family of mammals as sloths called Xenarthra. TSI also has successfully rehabilitated anteaters in the past.
It has been about 9 months since she came to TSI. Now, she’s all grown up and ready to be returned to the wild! Here’s a little video of her release.
Farewell Schumer!!
