We’re not just sloth crazy at The Sloth Institute, sometimes other species need help too!
Say hello to our friend, Schumer! She is a Tamandua anteater that came into TSI at only a couple of weeks old and weighing only 400g. She’s been growing quickly and is now an adolescent (about 6 months old) and learning all of the skills that she will need to be wild.
She was rescued by firefighters but we do not know what happened to her mom. Tamanduas are one of the number one road kill animals where TSI is located and are also frequently attacked by dogs so we think that her mom might have unfortunately been killed by one of these.
Why is her name Schumer? Well according to TSI’s own Sam Trull, “We named her after the comedian, ‘Amy Schumer’, because they are a super funny species so we like to name them after comedians and I’m an Amy Schumer fan!”.
Tell Schumer hello in the comments below and be sure to stay tuned for updates!
Even when Schumer is not a sloth, she is beautiful. <3
Hello Schumer!!! You’re stunning and we love you very much
