Nemo has been with TSI for a little over a month now. We originally received a call from a nearby hotel that informed us about a fallen sloth on the ground. When we got to him it was very obvious why he had fallen, he couldn’t see!
When we were able to take a closer look at his eyes, physically we could only see a gray mess that turned out to actually be skin membrane from his eyeballs. When Nemo closes his eyes, instead of being a pink color around his face it was gray meaning they were infected. At first we gave him so antibiotic drops to put in his eyes and after awhile of no change, we decided to take a closer look. We noticed hat his face was full of thorns and our best guess is that he was attacked by bees. We continued to clean his eyes and disinfect them as best we could.
Recently we tried out a new way of helping restore Nemo’s sight, we gave him a serum of stem cells specifically made for him to help regenerate his eyes. We’re hoping this serum will give us great results, as of now parts of his eyes that were not showing are finally coming back to the front and we are able to gaze into his eyes and officially meet him.
Only time will tell if he’ll be able to fully see again but for now it’s quite the healing process. Stay tuned and we will keep you updated on how it goes!
In his first month, Nemo has already made fantastic progress! Follow Sloth Diaries for updates.
